bests top-seeded Palmer in five games to claim title
Packed house watches event, which is geared to help
raise money for area's Junior Squash Program.

MIAMISBURG — It was the finals of the
sixth annual
Dayton Open squash tournament Monday night at the Dayton
Squash Center and the area's squash enthusiasts were out
in full force.
In front of a packed house and featuring appetizers and
martinis, No. 2-seeded Frenchman Thierry Lincou defeated
the No. 1-seeded Aussie, David Palmer, in five games to
claim this year's title.
"I played last year and lost in the quarterfinals, it
was a big disappointment," Lincou said. "So it felt good
to get a little revenge."
Lincou had to go through Palmer, and the Aussie battled
Lincou from start to finish. It was the 17th time the
two have hooked up in professional competition; Lincou
now has the edge, 9-8.
"He's so tough, so mentally tough and strong," Lincou
said about Palmer. "When you get a win against him, it's
such a relief."
Lincou took home $7,671 for his effort, while Palmer
pocketed $5,245 for being runner-up. Lincou, ranked No.
6
in the world, can expect to have his ranking rise a bit
with the win over the No. 4-ranked Palmer.
Event Director Charlie
Johnson, a squash player himself, said the whole idea
behind the tournament was to help raise money for the
Dayton Challenge Junior Squash program.
The program helps get the word about squash out to
youngsters and it is free for kids to participate.
"Six or seven years ago there was not a junior squash
program in the area, now we have two kids going off to
college to play squash," Johnson said. "That is why we
do this."

David et moi
avions encore bataillé pendant 5 jeux. Le 1er jeu fut
extrêmement accroché et a eu son importance au bout du
compte. la rencontre a été intense tout au long des 100
minutes environ et je suis sorti vidé mentalement
et physiquement de cette finale.
J'avais à cœur
de bien faire ici surtout après un bon break a la
Réunion mêlant plaisir, détente en famille et
entraînement. "

cette petit victoire car on en a bavé tous les 2
aux séances d'entraînement par 35 degrés."

Un petit mot sur mon parcours dans le tournoi de
Dayton.
J'avance pas à pas vers la finale. je n'ai pas perdu de
jeux en route, ce qui est rare chez moi, comme quoi on peut toujours
s'améliorer et progresser.
